Meet the Author...

JWH O'PREY

I’m a lad from Liverpool, born and raised, where the roar of the football on match days was my soundtrack growing up. I’m no writer—never even thought about it until now—but I’ve got stories that come from the realness of this city, with its mix of grit and heart. I’ve spent years as a support worker, helping people through their toughest days, and I’ve done my time in call centres and retail, dealing with everything from angry customers to the quiet moments of connection that keep you going. When the idea for Glowborn Dawn hit me, it came straight from imagining my own streets turned into a nightmare, with monsters that look like the people you’d pass every day but aren’t anymore.

I wanted to bring that raw perspective to the page, no frills, just how I see it. I’ve never written before, so this is me laying it all out—Blackpool’s faded arcades, the kind I’d visit as a kid with a bag of chips, now crawling with horrors that’ll make your skin crawl. It’s not about fancy words; it’s about picturing normal people fighting to survive in a world gone wrong, holding onto the kind of loyalty we’ve always known in Liverpool. This story’s straight from my gut, built on the fear and hope I’ve seen in real life, like when you’re helping someone who’s lost everything but still finds a reason to keep going.

Being from Liverpool shapes everything I write—it’s got to feel proper, you know? The way we talk, the way we stand by each other, that’s all in there, and thats where Logan shines, the scouser in the story. I’m not a polished author, just a Scouser who’s lived a bit, worked jobs that show you the best and worst of people, and wants to tell a story that feels like it could happen to any of us. Glowborn is my first go, a raw take on my city Liverpool, Manchester, the North West, in a world turned upside down, where the real fight is holding onto what makes us human. If you’ve ever loved a place or a person so much it hurts, you’ll get what I’m trying to say.
